Greetings All,

I am unsure of Loet's reason for his original post – but none-the-less, I
have something to add to 'definitions of information'.

In following my IS4SI 2021 'Theory of Meaning' talk, below I copy an
abstract for a paper I now work on: 'Entropy – a scientific base for
super-intelligence' . . . continuing to develop concepts presented at my
IS4SI talk. Central to this 'definitions of information' discussion, the
paper explores Signal Entropy ('classic'[?] information) in relation to
Super-Intelligence. So, it may be of interest.

The link for the current draft of the paper is:

Next, further to Mariusz's note:
> Our reality is composed of entities (objects, features, structures) that
we can somehow distinguish.<
– This seems to head in a useful direction but I do not see Mariusz really
developing 'that point'. Still, this note suggests a 'material context' for
all information. Closely naming a CONTEXT is a necessary precursor for any
later informatic CONTENT, relying wholly on that prior context. Any offered
content is otherwise 'meaning-less'. In turn, percepts we (or any agent)
bring to that context (however incomplete they may be) determine the
content that CAN follow – regardless of the given subject matter.

ABSTRACT
This paper frames Super-Intelligence via three scientific roles. It starts
by defining key terms: general intelligence, super intelligence, knowledge,
and informatic process. It next names thermodynamic entropy, Signal
Entropy, and Darwinian evolution, as scientific roles (informatic
processes) that can join as an ‘Entropic continuum’ – making Entropy
(broadly defined ‘generic expansion’) the model’s core principle. That
continuum maps material roles of falling-apart, joining, and selection
functioning as initial ‘empiric levels’, each with differed Degrees of
Freedom (DoF). The continuum also entails a Bateson-like ‘pattern that
connects’ the cosmos – a dualist-triune (2-3), where 2-3 functional DoF
analysis offers a means for General and Super-Intelligence modeling. More
continuum details arise via ever-deeper DoF analysis, with a growing sense
of Super-Intelligence. This view does not envision an autonomous
‘singleton’ dominating humanity. It instead targets a general ‘insight
engine’ to aid human innovation and discovery, in a Naturally
creative/contiguous simple-to-complex cosmos (3,700 words).
