Dear FIS Colleagues,
Thanks, Francesco. First of all, we already have the link of the recent
IAIS Dialogue between Mike Levin & Bill Miller.
You can find it at: *https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.youtube.com/@IAISDIALOGUES/videos*__;Kg!!D9dNQwwGXtA!W_MByENbMEiSc_AycSgd4RTNdAtu0mZS6Yf4wIfyE6dfAEQclY0TkwcEDpfZ4urFIbNaowcWyNsSRkuPLEljieP_Ul-4$
It was a really exciting time, and we were willing to continue, so we
are arranging a discussion session in FIS list (in one month or so).
And the elephant in the room: in little more than one year AI is leaving
an astonishing trail of revolutionary events--this time it is serious,
and pregnant with so many repercussions. In my view, the influence in
science probably will be positive filling in some of our most obvious
individual/collective limitations. But concerning economy and social
governance, it is undeniable that the unprecedented concentration of
money and power in those very few parties related with AI is daunting.
It is menacing, it is hurting. It is jeopardizing not only market
competition and economic freedom, but also political competition and
democratic institutions the world over. Too many causes, too many
transformations, too many confusions, too many would-be-autocrats.
Indeed. The information revolution of past decades is being dramatically
accelerated by AI... towards? There is a beautiful connection to be made
between foundations of AI and foundations of information, and that
concern may be essential to us. Yes, but all the rest??
These are my today lamentations of Jeremiah--or not really. Shouldn't
we arrange an omni-comprehensive discussion on that?
Best--Pedro
