[Fis] The idiocy in reviewing has already reached its apogee!

Dear Krassimir,
Thank you for this humorous(?, or sad for AI) take on the nature of AI, and
its do-ings. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to keep/take an
‘information science’ perspective on all AI, but which seems wholly missing
from current AI thinking.
For example, if one considers all human activity, from the start, EVERY
significant advance involves some form of ‘organizing and presenting
information’ . . . and every such advance (each in its own time/right) was
extraordinary, remarkable, etc. - even prior to tool use. This latest ‘turn
in the road’ as AI is the same-just another way of (tool for) ‘organizing
and presenting information’. It saves us untold hours of having to scour a
vast Internet, hungry for useful(?) information. But AI
actually invents/discovers nothing-it SEEMS to invent/discover ‘things’ in
bringing ‘new to us’ data . . . but ALL of which already exists (good AND
bad data) in some form, across a too vast Internet-but perhaps not so
easily accessed or imagined by any one person, at any one moment. AI as
practiced today is no more than an IMPERFECT ‘information consolidator’. It
is NOT a ‘meaning generator’, but it has that appearance. But still,
*Informatic
Processing* (of MANY types) remains our primary adaptive means, more than
for any other animal and placing us apart. We thus hunger for and heavily
laud almost any and all ‘informatic processing’ gain.
I recall reading one of the papers referenced by Shannon 1948 in developing
signal entropy and how that paper spoke of ‘transmitting intelligence’ over
telegraph lines. How naive that claim of ‘telegraph intelligence’ sounded
to my modern ears-and it will come to be the same for today’s AI claims
when regarded at a far future date.
