Interesting to read about AI as ER doc. 
My family ER doc made clear to me that what he is most concerned about is identifying cases that are not typical or classic but are unclear and that require him to use his instincts to properly treat people and sometime save their lives.
AI or med student could ID classic symptoms. 
My wife had a mysterious rash and ended up in Mass General Dermatology department being treated by the department chair, a man with several decades of experience, he  gathered all his attendings and residents while he examined and diagnosed an unusual case.
The cause turned out to be trivial and easily treated but was mysterious because my wife's allergic response that led to the rash and its nature was atypical and highly unusual. Unusual enough that the physician in charge saw a teaching moment.
