Dear colleagues,

Easter arrives at the apotheosis of the resurrection AFTER going through
the tragedy of death.
Similarly, please forgive me for drawing our attention to a point which is
a tragic misunderstanding, or even worse, relating to the concepts of
contrast and information.

Is this not one notch of self-assurance too many? Putting aside formalities
like

A and B are different concepts. B is a feature or form of X. A is the Z, W,
X created by the interaction of common and different features.

which could be stated in a less self-contradictory formulation, there
remains the problem of not how we name the unclear boundary between the
two, but how the boundaries run. The hypothesis of common - different,
attraction - repulsion is a really good one and should be followed on.

But HOW DO WE KNOW? The a priori declaration, this is such, even before one
has investigated the problem, is usually foreshadowing red ears and tactful
silences.

Of course, had we an agreed on assembly of facts which we can propose to
delineate in several ways until we come to an agreement that it appears to
us, today, that x is in such and such ways different to y, and that we call
this kind of being different Q and that kind of being similar W - well,
then we would be doing our job, which is not issuing declarations but
providing useful alternatives for choice.

Sorry for disturbing the pomp and circumstances of our well earned self
congratulations.
