Dear Folks,
It is useful to understand that in topoolgy there is an excellent definition of continuity that works for spaces even if they are finite.
This means that the concept of the continuous is not bound to the concept of infinity. 
I believe that this is certainly the case in our experience where a close look never reveals
the infinite, but often includes an essence of continuity.

I leave you with this thought and the bare bones of the topological definiitions.

A topological space is a pair of sets (X,T) where T is a collection of so-called open subsets of X (sometimes called open neighborhoods).
The open sets satisfy the axioms:
1. Arbitrary unions of open sets are open.
2. Finite interactions of open sets are open.
3. The empty set {} and the whole space X are open.

A function f:X —> Y between topological spaces is said to be CONTINUOUS if 
f^{-1}(U) is open in X for every open set U in Y.

Of course it takes some unpacking to become familiar with the meaning of this definition. I won’t try here with that. But here is a small example.
(a) X = {a,b,c} and all subsets of X are called open. In this case X is a discrete space and as you can see from our definitions, ALL maps defined on X are continuous.
(b) Y =(a,b,c) , T(Y) = {{},Y,{a},{c}}. Note that I have excluded {b} from the opens. The smallest open set containing b is the whole space Y. This makes Y a connected space, not discrete at all.
A space is connected if it cannot be decomposed into a disjoint union of open sets.
Note that the mapping f:Y—>X defined by f(a)=a,f(b)=b,f(c)=c is NOT continuous because {b} is open in X but {b} is not open in Y.

It takes a while to get used to topological spaces at this level, but the open sets are a way to express the properties of discrimination.
In fact, the collection of open sets in a topological space forms a generalization of a Boolean algebra (characteristic of discrete spaces) called a Heyting algebra.
The whole subject of topology can be regarded as a study of the concept of continuity.
