Dear Mark,
Thank you very much for your proposal. I fully support the idea of the
three-tier sequence of publications.
I understand that the first tier of extended abstracts should be mandatory,
the other two optional. When I communicated with potential organizers of
contributing conferences I promised that the organizers have the right to
publish their own proceedings, if they wish so. This was only one case that
this condition was openly mentioned, but I already accepted it.
One more issue is the distinction between a workshop and conference based
on the number of participants. It is difficult to predict how many
contributions will be submitted to the components of the Summit and the
last minute change of the name from workshop to conference or the other way
around would be confusing. On the other hand one of the contributing
conferences will be the 13th in a series with the long tradition which
always had the title "#th International Workshop..." while having way above
10 participants. For this reason I would like to leave the title of
conferences contributing to the Summit to the organizers while
conferences/workshops/symposia (whatever is the choice) will be called
using one generic term "conference" in the materials of the Summit.
