Residency/Fellow Training in Diagnostic Anatomic Pathology

California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System

University of California, Davis

The California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS),
School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis is
offering a two-year residency training program in anatomic veterinary
pathology. The position is also open to applicants who have completed a
residency but wish additional training and/or experience (i.e. fellow).
The program is designed to provide specialty training for those
interested in gaining experience or advanced training in diagnostic
veterinary pathology mostly on production animals, as well as herd
health and public safety. The training involves extensive diagnostic
casework on food animals, equine, poultry, exotic avian species, and a
variety of zoo and wildlife species. Residents/fellows will gain
practical and diverse experience through the various laboratory
disciplines (e.g. bacteriology, immunology, toxicology) while working up
the cases. Casework is supplemented by weekly case and biopsy
conferences, gross rounds and seminars. Annual presentation of one or
more case reports at a national diagnostic/pathology meeting (AAVLD or
ACVP) is encouraged. Successful outcome of the training program includes
board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathology
(ACVP).

The current salary for the first year of the residency program is
$50,183. Continuation in the 2nd year of the program is contingent upon
mutual satisfaction on the part of both the resident/fellow and the
CAHFS.

Qualifications and requirements for admissions include: DVM or
equivalent degree, at least one-year of pathology experience and
effective communication skills both orally and in writing.

(3) transcripts from veterinary school(s), and (4) three letters of
recommendation to: CAHFS Personnel Office,
