It is difficult to predict how many contributions will be submitted to the components of the Summit and the last minute change of the name from workshop to conference or the other way around would be confusing. On the other hand one of the contributing conferences will be the 13th in a series with the long tradition which always had the title "#th International Workshop..." while having way above 10 participants. For this reason I would like to leave the title of conferences contributing to the Summit to the organizers while conferences/workshops/symposia (whatever is the choice) will be called using one generic term "conference" in the materials of the Summit. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif">Regards,</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif">Marcin</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman, serif"> </div><div class=""><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr" class=""><div class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><font face="times new roman, serif" size="4" class="">Marcin J. It must be on the web site of the Summit, which in turn, has to be connected to the web site of the IS4SI.<br class="">The goal of this publication is to inform other participants not only of the topic but also of the content of the presentation. It will allow participants to make better choices of what they would like to listen and/or discuss; to better prepare in advance to listening and/or discussion; and to better understand the research of other participants.<br class="">It would be reasonable to divide the Book into the following parts:<br class=""> 1. Welcome letter of the President<br class=""> 2. Abstracts of the plenary lectures<br class="">To form this part, the organizers must ask each plenary lecturer to write, at least, 5 sentences but better 1-2 pages about her/his lecture<br class=""> 3, 4, 5, … Abstracts of the conferences and workshops <br class="">The suggested difference: workshops have less than 10 participants while conferences have more than or at least 10 participants)<br class="">I would also like to suggest a nonstandard part of the Book:<br class=""> 10. Abstracts for Discussion<br class="">In this part, researchers who cannot or don’t want to personally present their results will be able to participate and discuss these results with other participants.<br class=""> Another possibility is to publish Abstracts for Discussion in the parts of the relevant conferences and workshops.<br class=""><br class=""><strong class="">2nd tier</strong>: During presentations and subsequent discussions, remarks and questions of other participants can help the presenter to improve the initial abstract adding some new materials. That is why it would be beneficial to provide the opportunity to publish extended abstract (3-5 pages) in the journal Proceedings. This is a good tradition originated in Gothenburg (thanks to Gordana) and continued after Berkeley.<br class=""><br class=""><strong class="">3rd tier</strong>: In addition, participants will have a possibility to write a full-size paper (10 or more pages) based on the materials from extended abstracts and publish them in journals and books related to the Summit.<br class=""><br class="">It would be reasonable to preserve information about all the publications on the web site of the IS4SI.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Sincerely,<br class=""></div><div class="">Mark Burgin<br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><hr id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661zwchr" class=""><div class=""><b class="">From: </b>"Marcin SCHROEDER" <<a href="mailto:mjs@gl.aiu.ac.jp" target="_blank" class="">mjs@gl.aiu.ac.jp</a>><br class=""><b class="">To: </b><a href="mailto:fis@listas.unizar.es" target="_blank" class="">fis@listas.unizar.es</a><br class=""><b class="">Sent: </b>Sunday, September 13, 2020 10:44:49 AM<br class=""><b class="">Subject: </b>[Fis] FIS Conference<br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"times new roman",serif"><div class="gmail_default"><div class=""><table cellpadding="0" class=""><tbody class=""><tr class=""><td style="width:750.597px" class=""><table style="width:750px" cellpadding="0" class=""><tbody class=""><tr class=""><td class=""><h3 class=""><span style="font-size:xx-small" size="1" class=""><span style="font-weight:normal" class="">Dear Colleagues, I am resending my earlier message.</span></span></h3><div class=""><span style="font-size:xx-small" size="1" class="">Marcin</span></div><div class=""><span style="font-size:xx-small" size="1" class=""><br class=""></span></div></td></tr></tbody></table></td><td class=""><span id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661gmail-m_6827991517611433027gmail-:14c" title="Sep 12, 2020, 11:09 PM" class="">Sat, Sep 12, 11:09 PM (2 days ago)</span><div title="Not starred" style="outline:0px" class=""><br class=""></div></td><td class=""></td><td rowspan="2" class=""><div class=""><img alt="" style="background-size: 20px;" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif" class=""></div><div id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661gmail-m_6827991517611433027gmail-:14k" class=""><img alt="" style="background-size: 20px;" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif" class=""></div></td></tr><tr class=""><td colspan="3" class=""><table style="width:1065.45px" cellpadding="0" class=""><tbody class=""><tr class=""><td class=""><div class="">to <span dir="ltr" class="">Krassimir</span>, <span dir="ltr" class="">fis</span></div><div id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661gmail-m_6827991517611433027gmail-:130" class=""><img alt="" style="background-size: 20px;" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif" class=""></div></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table></div><div id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661gmail-m_6827991517611433027gmail-:149" class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><div id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661gmail-m_6827991517611433027gmail-:12z" class=""><br class=""></div><div id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661gmail-m_6827991517611433027gmail-:14a" class=""><div id="gmail-m_5245390417851540661gmail-m_6827991517611433027gmail-:12y" class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div class="gmail_default">Dear Krassimir, Pedro and other FIS colleagues,</div><div class="gmail_default">Thank you for your response and interest in helping to organize the FIS Conference in the 2021 IS4SI Summit.</div><div class="gmail_default">It is a very difficult time and the preparation of the IS4SI Summit is a big challenge. It will be the first online summit, this means a big risk of the unknown. I am scared, but I try to think about it not as a risky business, but as an opportunity. What kind of opportunity? At the moment, I think about it as an opportunity to build connections. The more we are separated by the pandemic, the more we need cooperation, connection, mutual understanding. So I try to organize the Summit as a medium for getting to know each other. This is why I am approaching different communities interested in Information or Related Concepts Study. At the moment I have confirmations from the organizers of seven conferences contributing to the 2021 IS4SI Summit:</div><div class="gmail_default">1) MORCOM (Gordana & Marcin)</div><div class="gmail_default"><div class="gmail_default"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman"" class="">2) Global Forum on Artificial Intelligence, GFAI (Yixin)</span><br class=""></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman"" class="">3) Symmetry and Information (Denes Nagy & Marcin)</span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman"" class="">4) Intl. As I wrote, I would like to foster communication and interaction. The conferences do not have to be big. Actually, more important than arranging many</span><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class=""> presentations is a generation of many </span><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">discussions. Mark Burgin, Joe Brenner and others were very supportive of the idea to generate discussions. I have to admit that my background in IT is limited. As probably everybody else, I taught online courses, organized some online discussions and workshops, but on a relatively small scale. I will need a lot of help. So, I am really happy that Krassimir offered his help. I will contact you Krassimir directly by email. </span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">I will be really happy to hear from everyone suggestions, advice, etc. </span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">Regarding the publication of papers presented at the Summit, there will be different venues. I promised some organizers the right to publish their own proceedings. Other conferences may use the arrangements made by IS4SI. It is important that Extended Abstracts are published BEFORE the Summit (see below).</span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">Now, back from the dream to reality. I organized two earlier FIS Conferences, but this time I will mainly support conferences of newcomers from the communities in which I have been active, but which did not have any contact with IS4SI. This is why it is important that someone could take care of organization of the FIS Conference. I really don't see I can commit to the organization of any additional conferences. </span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">What does have to be done?</span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">1) SOON</span><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">: Writing the Call for Papers, including the title for the conference. Mark Burgin suggested and I am in full support of this idea that all conferences should have calls for Extended Abstracts (a couple of pages)</span><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class=""> to be published BEFORE the Summit. This will help in generating discussions. </span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">2) MUCH LATER: Review of submissions and preparation of the program for the conference. Program means list of presentations, Invited Lectures, etc. </span></div><div class="gmail_default"><span style="color:rgb(80,0,80)" class="">3) Cooperation in building the schedule. We have to coordinate schedules of most likely more than 10 conferences.
